Five Elements Hostel

This hostel is just a 3-5 minute walk from Frankfurt train station. Although it's located in one of Germany's most notorious drug-addicted and red-light districts, you're safe once you step inside. To enter, ring the doorbell. The receptionist will open the door, leading to the reception area and common area. To take the elevator to your room, show the receptionist your check-in information card, who will open a second door. Finally, use your room key to enter your room. The common areas offer complimentary hot coffee and self-service tea bags (various flavors), with options to add sugar, maple syrup, and milk. A communal kitchen is located on the basement floor, equipped with a toaster, kettle, refrigerator, induction cooker, and various cooking utensils for free use. The eight-bed dorm rooms have a bedside lamp and two power outlets per bed. Pillowcases, sheets, and duvet covers cost €3 each. Each bed has a large, fully enclosed locker; you'll need to bring your own lock, or you can rent one from the receptionist for a fee. The toilets and showers are shared on each floor, separated by gender. One Hair dryer is available in the communal washrooms. Luggage can be stored free of charge upon check-in and check-out, or you can choose to use the lockers for a fee. Wi-Fi is very stable, and the heating is excellent.

Area is a bit sketchy and older crowd but the hostel facilities and staff are actually nice

It was really great staying in this hotel. The stuff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and they maintain regular cleanliness, providing all the facilities, good location and value for money. Gladly will book again.

Scary area, not safe for solo female travellers. Rooms were humid and hot.

Tout bon en ce qui concerne l'hôtel, le personnel, la sécurité, les commodités. Seul bémol, le quartier n'est pas très rassurant, lieu de prostitution, beaucoup de sans-abris, drogués, rue sale (détritus, déjections).

Social atmosphere wasn’t great. Kitchen was small but worked ok. Bit of a dodgy area but close to the train station.

This was the worst hostel in my entire trip. The storage boxes in the rooms were utterly inconvenient, just big wooden boxes under the bed. The bathrooms were clean. They charge 5 euros extra for city tax and linen. The location is very dicey. Although its located centrally but there are junkies all over near the hotel, in the odd hours you would definitely feel insecure while coming and leaving.

Ik heb weer genoten van mijn verblijf bij jullie. De douches zijn schoon, de lokalen zijn schoon, slechts 2 kleine klachten, maar die zijn niet erg ernstig, we zouden echt een beetje in de capsules moeten stofzuigen nadat de klanten zijn gepasseerd en misschien alle klanten eraan herinneren dat de keuken gemeenschappelijk is en dat het leuk is dat het wordt schoongemaakt nadat ieder van ons is gepasseerd het personeel is ook cool, maar ze weten hoe ze zichzelf moeten respecteren!

Mir wurde mitgeteilt, dass ich diese Unterkunft niemals besuchen darf. Leider habe ich diese Information erst erhalten, nachdem ich bereits eine andere Unterkunft gebucht hatte. Auf meine E-Mail wurde von der Leitung der Unterkunft bislang nicht geantwortet, auch nicht im Hinblick auf ein klärendes Gespräch. Aus diesem Grund hat sich mein Beitrag entsprechend verzögert.

convenient location from train. area maybe seedy but security is tight. love the capsule bed. keeps all the warmth. say cockroaches in the kitchen but it is hard to keep clean with so many people

I personally liked this location. Nice little bar at the bottom and they implement safety standards for the guests. The location it is located at is rough but nothing I can't handle. Kind of reminds me of New York or Los Angeles, the very bad side of those places. It's insane how bad it is in this beautiful city. Room was spacious and had all the amenities I needed. Staff was helpful and I enjoyed my stay. Thank you.

I saw cockroaches scuttling around the floor. Guests are not the conventional backpackers. There was an older demographic of immigrant workers and jobseekers, and misfits on the edge of alcoholism. The area immediately outside is junkie central. Druggies openly "shoot up" in the street. A dorm mate said he saw a deceased person being taken away in a body bag.

Loved it, the room was clean and spatious. Bed comfortable, with warm duvet. The check in and checkout seamless and I could leave my bag to make the most out of my short stay in Frankfurt. The breakfast a really good choice of cheese spread hummus, cheese, yoghurt, juice, multiple types of bread, boiled eggs etc. If you like savoury breakfast you won’t be disappointed. The location is not perfect, but it is disclosed in the description, you also get est plugs in the room. Would stay again.

Great hostel within walking distance of the main train station. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are very nice. Pro Tip: If you are staying for a longer period, book just a few days online first. Extend your stay directly at the reception—it is often cheaper than booking the full duration online. Highly recommended for value.

The hostel was ok, but the neighborhood not so much.

Am Ende bin ich natürlich selbst schuld, wenn ich eine Unterkunft an diesem Standort buche. Rotlichtviertel und Herzstück der Frankfurter Drogenszene. Eine klassische No-Go Area. Ein Ärgernis begann für mich beim Check-In. Ich hasse versteckte Kosten. Bettwäsche kostete 3€ extra. Klar, hier im Angebot war es angegeben, aber diese Trickserei mit diesen Basics ist eine Frechheit. Schade

Klar, hier im Angebot war es angegeben, aber diese Trickserei mit diesen Basics ist eine Frechheit. Schade, dass Hostelworld als Plattform sowas erlaubt. Die Mitarbeiter waren aber nett. Im Zimmer gingen die Probleme weiter. Metallgestell-Betten, die bei jeder Bewegung (egal, ob von oben oder von unten) wackeln. Sowas kann man doch niemandem mehr anbieten. Ich kann mich auf jeden Fall nicht an solche schlechten Betten erinnern. Die Sanitäranlagen waren in der Menge und Sauberkeit mangelhaft. Ein muffiger Geruch war im 4.Stock schon im Flur zu vernehmen. Keine ausreichende Lüftung der Duschen. Bodenlos. Man hat sich fast übergeben, als man da einen Duschraum betrat. Sonst gab es in der Etage nur vier WCs (2x Männer, 2x Frauen und jeweils einen Duschraum mit einer Dusche, die aber nicht wirklich voneinander abgetrennt waren. Das ist einfach zu wenig, wenn man knapp 50 Personen auf einer Etage unterbringt. Um 5:55 morgens gab es im Zimmer lautes Gelärme der Zimmer-Mitbewohner. Man dachte, dass der Gast dann früh auscheckt, aber er hat sich kurz danach wieder hingelegt. Ab 6:30 telefonierte dann ein Mitbewohner in seinem Bett bis mindestens 7:30, in der Zwischenzeit habe ich dann das Zimmer verlassen. Wenn man bedenkt, dass man für so eine Unterkunft dann knapp 30€ bezahlt hat, dann ist das einfach nur katastrophal. Ich kann das Hostel nur Personen empfehlen, die ganz früh nah am Hbf sein wollen und einfach keine Kohle haben. Sonst macht man einfach einen Bogen um diesen Laden. Lieber 40-45€ für etwas vernünftiges bezahlen. Nie wieder!

Colado na estação central, excelente banheiro e camas. Só quem tem problema com barulho é melhor não usar a opção, pois dá para ouvir todos os trens e sinais de vozes da estação. Porém, não é meu caso. Recomendo

This hostel is great and terrible in the same time. What I liked: The staff is nice! It's a very sociable place where you can meet all kinds of people. The lobby is a nice place to hang out and meet other travelers. It's super close to the main train station which is nice if you're coming and leaving from there. The single room are very spacious. The staff clean the common areas every day. The issues: The immediate surroundings are quite intense. Be prepared for noise and weird people all day and all night. We're at the heart of drug and sex addiction. Can be quite fascinating to watch though. The room smelled really bad. I had to open the windows every now and then which is not nice when it's really cold outside. Not sure if it was just my room or other room are like that too. Depending on other guests common area can be sometime dirty or very busy.

Affordable accommodation. Very close to Frankfurt train station. Sheets and bed questionable stains / smell. Right in the middle of the Red Light District , many homeless / drug addicts around . However, pay them no attention and walk with purpose and you’ll be fine .

Despite being near the central station, the area seems dangerous; unfortunately, I didn't feel safe, which is a shame because the hostel is great (staff, cleanliness, facilities).

Hab mich wohl gefühlt in dem Hostel. Es gibt einen schönen Gemeinschaftsraum mit kostenlosem Tee u Wasser im EG u das Hostel bietet verschiedene Abende zum Socializing an, zB einen Crepes-Abend.

De buurt is erg grimmig. Ik zou er niet als vrouw alleen verblijven. Weigig douches per verdieping. Geen gordijnen per bed. Ontbijt is veel te duur voor wat je krijgt en De kamers zijn ontzetten benauwd. Wel goed schoon en hele lekkere douche. De bedden waren erg wiebelig, maar de matrassen waren lekker. De cocktails waren erg goedkoop. Er is een binnen tuintje zodat je niet in de grimmige straat hoeft te roken.

The hostel is very nice. I booked the private two bed room and the room is clean. The shared bathrooms are also maintained well. I like that there’s events every other day and the security system made me feel safe. Location is convenient since it’s close the the hbf station but I would not go out at night. There are some interesting people that hang around the area.

I booked a capsule so I shared a room with some other people. It was only for one night for me. Coz I had an appoinment early in the morning. I wanted a good sleep. But what a luck. I think the person that also booked a capsule under me smoked weed (mind you. It was not allowed to smoke in the room). So even if it's prohibited, there would still be some people who do it. Can't really complain since I booked a shared room. Thought I would get a good sleep. It was 3 freaking o'clock. My nose was tortured real bad. I wanted to share this at the reception, but I forgot. Sorry that I write it here. Other than that, It's a nice place. Near the main Station of Frankfurt. Only 3-5 Minutes walk. The room and all are as neat as it can be. The breakfast also wasn't bad. I mean for that price? It's good.

The hostel is super good, clean, the atmosphere was amazing even on a Monday night (loved the crêpes night). It’s close to the train station and also it’s super easy to reach the center (20 min walking), the only big problem was the neighbourhood. I know it was in the red light distinct but I didn’t imagine it was THAT dangerous even during the day, it was full of crackheads staring and screaming at you, I was even chased by one of them. Just be really cautious and better no going out at night

It was the second time I stayed in this hostel. Its super close to the station. I dont mind the redlight district. Staff was really nice. Rooms clean. There are a lot of rules and extra payment, so I ended up without towel and used the sheets instead. But highly recommended hostel.

Overall, not the best experience but this was due to location. It was convenient for our journey to the station especially since we only stayed one night, but did not feel safe leaving the hostel at night or during the day. Was approached by people following us twice even when crossing the street. The pods were great and comfy but noise on the street at night kept me awake.

Rooms are nice, I stayed 2 nights in a capsule. Not bad for the price! The staff was very friendly and helpful! Breakfast options were plenty and fresh. The only minus is the location where it's situated because the moment you step out of the hostel there are people doing hard drugs almost everywhere around that area, they are also noisy at times and the police presence doesn't seem to bother them. Overall the experience was not bad but not recommended for families or older people because of the noise coming from outside at all times (24/7)

Very cheap. Location is great for proximity to the Central Station but this is the heart of the redlight district and more disturbingly the streets were packed with groups of vagrants taking drugs in plain view. Not threatening but discomforting. Nice staff. Decent facilities. My first encounter with a BEDBUG. Given a new room immediately

A GOOD PLACE TO STAY.I´M COMMING BACK.

During my stay at this hostel I faced a very serious problem: at night I was bitten many times (20–30 bites in one night). These clearly look like bedbug bites. The bites are very itchy, my skin feels hot, and I had a strong allergic reaction. I even took an antihistamine tablet, but it did not help — the itching and discomfort remain. This completely ruined my stay. Such conditions are absolutely unacceptable for guest accommodation. The management must urgently treat the rooms against insects. I am also requesting compensation, as the stay was extremely uncomfortable and unsafe for my health. Future guests should be very careful when booking this place.

Just be aware about the Area, it is close to Central station but it is in red light area and lot of homeless people around the Hostel.They Charge deposit for Towel and they won't provide Soap, Shampoo and Toothpaste

Capsule beds are great for privacy and not being woken up. The location is pretty unsafe, wouldn't recommend for women

Trop de bruit j'ai pas réussi à me reposer

At first I thought it was some kind of joke when the Uber dropped me off there. The whole block there is brothels, drug users, and trash everywhere. The hostel itself is fine. The service was prompt and friendly. They have good lounge areas. Rooms are fine for what it is, boot camp style. Breakfast in the morning for a fee was fine. Only problem I had with the place is that it's in the worst part of the city.

As a solo female traveller I do not recommend due to the location. I felt uncomfortable even going back to my private room I just felt “unclean” although the hostel itself is fine, and it is clean but due to the environment it just felt unclean. I ended up leaving and going to a hotel.

Room very nice, very nice social area, has a small kitchen, staff are nice and helpful, security is good, they really work on keeping the place clean..location is good in that it's close to bus and train station but the street outside is quite seedy. Now they do take security serious. Very pleasant stay and very reasonably priced.

hostel staff was nice its not in good location thats for sure very sketchy place and even rooms are not that good very weird vibe and people are high most of time and not even drunk they high and its very scary to be in same room with them.

This just wasn’t for me. Outside is very sketchy but reception are vigilant to make sure only guests come in to the building and the lift to rooms. They advertise daily events but this was not the case, which on a weekend was very disappointing. Drunk middle aged men pestering other guests in the communal area I was definitely not a fan of, especially when staff did not intervene. Very noisey outside and also had to report a drunk guest in my room to reception. Overall a pretty bad experience.

The bad bits: VERY CHAOTIC LOCATION. I did not feel safe at all. Some of the characters in the hostel are almost as dodgy as outside. Morning didn't feel any safer outside than evening. I've visited/lived in the "dodgy" neighborhoods in other cities and never fear like here. Private rooms are on floor 6&7.The good bits: people who work there are lovely, my private room had a nice view, the bathroom was clean, the kitchen had everything I needed, there's free hot drinks and water, there's a bar.
