Five Elements Hostel

It was in the red light district, and arriving at night was a little scary. I knew that when I booked, so it wasn’t unexpected. I felt safe in the hostel as you had to ring a bell to enter the property and a locked door that had to be opened by staff to enter the sleeping area. My friend and I had a concern about someone we were sharing a room with, and the staff were as accommodating as they could be. They also had oat milk with the free coffee in the morning. super nice place!! the very first night i was there they had a free beer tasting which was super fun. they have free board games, tea/coffee, ping-pong tables (i think). rooms were comfortable and bathrooms were nice, always clean. the location is very dodgy, got catcalled/approached more times than i can count while i was there, even in the daytime. i wouldn’t say it’s dangerous per se, but as a solo female traveller i made a point to leave the hostel with other people as often as i could. the hostel unf

Despite the owner's deepest reassurances, this hostel is still a product of its location. The toilets didn't work sometimes, one day there was no hot water, they play club music in the study area/reception 24/7, the kitchen is tiny and was difficult to find a place for any food preparation. In the bedroom, no privacy curtain and you have to rent a padlock for the locker. Temperature was okay with the windows open, but the courtyard was loud even after I asked staff to take care of it.

The staff is EXCELLENT if I ever go back, it'll be because of them. Super friendly and they accommodate all questions. The facilities are ok - my floor was sticky (good thing I brought slippers) and the shower is set-up in such a way that the water spills out. And on my last night, I saw a tick on my bed. I killed it with tissue and alcohol before flushing it down the toilet but.. it was still a yikes. Location: anywhere near the hauptbahnhof feels extremely unsettling.

Nota do estabelecimento inflada no Hostelworld. Ambiente sujo, os banheiros estavam em reforma durante o dia de estadia e nada foi avisado, além da localização influenciar bastante. Até avisaram sobre estar na zona vermelha, porém não era apenas uma zona vermelha, parecia um local de venda de drogas. Não recomendo.

The staff provided good service, and the rooms, toilets, and bathrooms were clean. However, the location was terrible. Homeless people and drug users were a constant presence outside the hostel, making it feel unsafe and uncomfortable. The disturbances and lack of security measures made it hard to rest properly. It would have been better if the hostel had warned guests about the area's issues beforehand. I wouldn't recommend staying there due to the unpleasant surroundings.

It’s in the red light district. Don’t engage with the crazies in the area and they mostly won’t engage with you. Price is very fair and as convenient as it gets to the main train station. Socializing here has been hit or miss for me as a solo traveler. Free tea and coffee in a living room where people often keep to themselves. Overall this is a good hostel. Oh yeah a pool table and lockers downstairs as well.

Hostel ist eigentlich gar nicht so schlecht, ist aber in einer sehr unangenehmen Straße mit vielen Obdachlosen. Würde es leider nicht empfehlen.

It was not clean. The location is one the hand ideal to the station and for using public transport. On the other hand it is in the middle of the red-light District.

Want to start out by thanking the staff. They seemed very nice and were very accommodating. Nothing about my experience here had anything to do with them. That being said, I don’t believe anything positive about the hostel conditions discounts the terrible state of the neighborhood it’s located in. I booked my stay because it was cheap, rated relatively well, and close to the train station. That’s on me for not reading the reviews closely enough and taking them more seriously. I used to work in a neighborhood where there was a lot of gang activity (dr*g dealing/addiction, shootings, dog fights, etc.) so I figured how bad could it really be. When I first left the train station someone threatened to st*b me for my water bottle. Thank god a group of guys drinking across the street got him away. God bless them for that drink. Walking to the train station I was accosted twice by some addicts and there were people with track marks wandering around barefoot stepping on broken glass (I cannot emphasize enough how much broken glass was on the sidewalks). The sidewalks were mostly blocked off due to construction so every encampment was crowded and impossible to avoid. I didn’t want to stay somewhere where I’d either have to get a taxi everywhere or worry about when the sun was gonna set. Not a safe place for solo travelers. I cannot imagine what its like for a solo female traveler. Wound up booking a cheap hotel for the same rate on the other side of town and took a stroll around. Thankfully I saved some money. This is a very nice city with a lot to offer but steer clear of that location.
