Sunflower Hostel

Our stay at Sunflower Hostel in Berlin was mixed. The location is one of its main strengths, as it’s close to the city’s clubs, attractions, and has easy access to trams and train stations. There are plenty of affordable food options nearby, which made eating out convenient. However, while the location was practical, the surrounding neighborhood sometimes felt unsafe due to visible anti-social behavior, which made me uncomfortable to go out at night by myself to grab food etc. The hostel itself had a lively, social atmosphere, particularly in the common areas and outdoor spaces. Cheap drinks at the bar also made it easy to meet other travelers, though the vibe often felt more shaped by the guests than by the staff. Staff interactions were inconsistent, some were friendly and helpful, while others seemed unhappy. There was a few social activities through the hostel but nothing each night to meet people. The four-person pod room we stayed in came with several downsides. Wi-Fi did not reach our room at the end of the corridor, and the pod itself was hot, forcing us to keep the door open at night. One cleaner also behaved unprofessionally, slamming doors and swearing while stripping beds, which made the stay feel uncomfortable. Bathrooms: there weren’t enough for the number of guests, they weren’t always clean, and some flooded due to poor design or maintenance. Other inconveniences included a late 4 p.m. check-in, bar closures during staff changeovers during a busy evening, expensive laundry facilities with limited machines, and steep charges for lockers. Card payments at the bar were only accepted over €15. Overall, Sunflower Hostel offers a good base for those wanting to be close to nightlife and enjoy a social environment.

When we checked in the weirdly snobby clerk informed us that we had rented a capsule, not a private room. We weren’t upset, just surprised, but they went on to defensively berate us for not knowing. The truth was, this wasn’t clearly marked online - but we didn’t even say this. I think this actually spoke to the face that most people, when faced with the capsule, are disappointed. The capsule is like sleeping in a fridge laid on its side, or like sleeping in a double coffin. It is, as I presumed, extremely creepy and claustrophobic. It feels against all human nature. It was genuinely worse than just being in the cheaper normal bunk I think. But the fact that it’s advertised as semi private and a step up from the bunk is absurd. Also FWIW the bathroom was totally filthy. Not just once but like it’s never cleaned. It stunk of mold and felt gross to be in. There’s no reason why a shower can’t be kept a bit clean, even in a hostel. It was much dirtier than a gym or the shower of other hostels. We ended up forfeiting a night and leaving early. It was a really bad experience. The two stars are because the rooms are decently clean.

The location of the hostel isn't amazing in my opinion. I had a hard time in Berlin with a lot of rude people so I was trying to treat this stay as a time to relax in the room sometimes but the bed was so incredibly loud that any little movement would make an obnoxious noise. Anytime I had to get something out from the storage area under the bed it was loud. I couldn't get a proper nights rest. I didn't like that we all shared one key for one room when I didn't know anyone else there.

Very value for money, very cheap, very clean, very spacious, very good activities, with great amenities and also very kind and helping reception! Great breakfast and common spaces as well. Possibly one of the best if not the best Hostel I have stayed in so far. Thank you for giving me an amazing stay in Berlin!

Sunflower Hostel has a great location near Berlin’s nightlife and transport, with cheap bar drinks and a lively atmosphere driven by guests. However, the area felt unsafe at times, staff were mixed, and facilities were lacking—Wi-Fi didn’t reach rooms, bathrooms were limited and often dirty or flooded, rooms were hot, and extras like lockers and laundry were pricey. Good for location and nightlife, but not for comfort.

Absolutely loved this hostel. The perfect place to stay if your interested in the nightlife scene in Berlin. So easy to make friends and find people to go out with. But even better was that the rooms were quiet(apart from a very creaky bed) and clean and the hostel is not a party hostel at all. Would highly recommend.

Really great location to go check out nightlife clubs that are nearby, and really cool chill neighborhood. Not the cleanest hostel i’ve stayed at but not the grossest either, just ok. I’d say if going to the clubs is your goal in berlin stay here because the people are great and have the same goal. If you’re going to sightsee and don’t care for club life, then maybe somewhere else would be better.

People just stay here to sleep after clubbing, so the atmosphere is not so sociable. If you are planning to do a sightseeing trip to Berlin, this in NOT the place. Beds and locker are so noisy and the old bunk beds make it really difficult to sleep, specially if your roommates come back really late at night. I meet 3 different couples of roommates in 4 days cause they mainly book one/tow night to have a spot after clubbing.SO IF YOUR AIM IS TO LIVE BERLIN NIGHT LIFE THIS IS THE SPOT OTHERWISE NO

Good facilites and decent bar to sit and drink at the hostel. Location was also great. Unfortunately the beds in the 4 person dorm room I was staying in were INCREDIBLY CREAKY. So creaky that it would cause me to wake when other people moved in their beds. Rooms were also stuffy and could use some fans in them for summer.
