Bathrooms need improvement, it smells bad when we come in

Toiletten und Dusche war nicht so sauber.

the hostel is not clean, the rooms are cold and the staff is horribly rude save Nico. - The cleaning lady dropped by the female dorm once in 2 days and apart from swiping her card to open the door to log her entry as a tick mark, the broom in her hand was never used to sweep the floor, and she only emptied the trash can. - The bathroom shower cubicle was never cleaned during my entire 1 week stay and the tray for soap etc looked so dirty with soap and dirt etc stuck in corners as if it had not been cleaned for months. - The heating is a travesty and the rooms were ice cold. Neither do they have additional heaters, though they gave an extra blanket after a bit of a fuss that they can do nothing about heating, so that was a relief. - The most excruciatingly painful of all was being denied a lower bed through the reservation process though I have a disability, and having had to plead and beg for it because all other hostels in Berlin were all sold out whilst the entire female dorm was empty at Amstel - This in itself is evidence that amstel is one of the last choices for hostels in Berlin yet Amstel management and staff is yet to wake up about it. It also explains why prices are probably low here at Amstel though with the right staff they can spruce up this place. - The constant excuse for weeks to refuse a lower bed before my arrival being given by Amstel staff was they cannot reserve a lower bed, which actually violates German law as it is a signatory to the UNCRPD that protects the rights of disabled. All hostels must be able to made modifications to IT systems to be able to offer a lower bed to a person with disability, when informed in advance and when the entire female dorm is vacant which was the case here.

Ein wenig gross, viele lange Flure, viele Stockwerke

The kitchen was dirty and a lot of stuff went missing, but I think that's rather due to the guests.

Es war nicht sauber, vor allem die Gemeinschaftsduschen und Toiletten waren relativ dreckig.

Mucho olor a cigarrillo y pese a decirlo, no hubo cambio de habitación.

Schimmel im Zimmer und in der Dusche. Alle Fugen waren schwarz.

I've never been in a hostel where the staff (apart from the cleaning staff) show so little care or attention to guests. It should be a pleasure to work in a hostel and guests should be the priority, sadly it's the opposite there. Staff spend more time socialising with each other than caring for customers. There is zero interest or interaction. I and several guests I spoke with had the same experience. I work in hostels and I take pride in making sure the guests feel at home and cared for. In Amstel House Hostel you can go through the whole day without being asked, how are you, do you need anything, where are you from, welcome to Berlin and can I make your stay more enjoyable. I could go on and say more about my personal experience however I feel it would be wasted. It's not an environment of care, It's the complete opposite. Guests are an inconvenience to the staffs socialising. I was given a key card and told where my room was on check in and that's all..... Hostels should come with hospitality, care and interaction as a given. If you want a cheap room go to a hotel instead. All substance and no soul....

Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit eigenem Bad. Die Dusche war sehr stark verschimmelt. Die Zimmertür war kaputt und war kaum zu schließen. Frühstück für 8,5€/Person war eher mau, wenig Auswahl.

The location is not that good and the WiFi doesn't work from the room.

Det tok tid å komme inn da vi kom til hotellet klokka 01. Av en eller annen grunn var resepsjonisten ikke i området, og vi måtte vente utenfor i 10-15 minutter. De gikk heller ikke an å ringe hotellet og slippe inn.
