Five Elements Hostel

I booked a bed for 20.80 € total, but at check-in the price increased with mandatory extra charges (bedsheets, city tax, deposit) that weren’t clear when booking. I stayed in room 207 (8-bed dorm). The dorm itself was clean, but the average age of the guests was around 50, not really a young backpacker atmosphere. The vibe felt more like a private gay party than a typical hostel social scene. The location is very close to the train station, but unfortunately it’s also surrounded by homeless people and drug users, which doesn’t feel very safe or comfortable. Overall: fine if you need to be near Hbf, but not what I expected in terms of atmosphere. 3/5 , and that’s generous.

Enjoyed my stay. Meeting interesting people and played a few games of pool. Bed comfortable, good ambience.

receptionists (especially women with glasses) make you feel unwelcome. Charging for bed sheet but you gotta do it yourself. Mentioned sketchy street but it’s way worst than you could imagine plus the screaming noise of homeless through out the night. Just kept you awake. Plus side: volunteer and Caleb was amazing

Limpieza del lugar deplorable, cuartos calientes y exceso de ruido por la zona en la que se encuentra, que es peligrosa y descuidada. Te cobran 3€ por sábanas y te hacen hacer tu la cama. No recomiendo hospedarse aquí

This is a terrible hostel. I advise you not to stay here, otherwise you will only regret it. I booked this hostel because it is close to Frankfurt Hbf, but it is located in a red-light area. In this area, you will find drugs, prostitutes, very bad smell, and a high risk of diseases and germs everywhere. The rooms of the hostel are suffocating with no ventilation. The washrooms have no privacy. At the reception, they hire temporary staff who are very rude to guests. You will not see any permanent management here. The kitchen is extremely dirty and full of cockroaches. There is no hygiene at all, and the employees do not care about cleanliness. If you are coming to Frankfurt for a good purpose, then this hostel is not for you. You will regret staying here. But if your purpose is something else, then maybe this place will suit you.

Facilities are good and clean. The neighbourhood, on the other, is really sketchy.

I’m very satisfied with the journey. It is true that the street is located in an uncomfortable place but as i’ve read before coming “if you don’t mess with them they won’t mess with you”, so basically it requires just not to look at strangers or answer if they talk to you. As a solo female traveller i felt extremely safe in the structure, the staff was helpful and both room and bathroom were really clean. The atmosphere is really nice in the hostel and they offer free water, coffee. Really cool

el hostel esta bueno, la atencion es excelente los empleados manejan varios idiomas, la ubicacion esta bien, salvo por los que estan en las veredas y los club xxx, fuera de eso esta bueno.

I do not recommend staying at this property. Unfortunately, I experienced a bed bug infestation during my stay, which has caused ongoing issues. Additionally, the cleanliness of the accommodation was below expectations. There was also significant noise at night, and the surrounding neighborhood felt unsafe. Overall, this property did not meet my standards for comfort and safety.

We pay for the dorm bed; it is not a free service. Reception staff is very rude and unprofessional. Atmosphere is like a red-light area. · People are always intoxicated. · Constant foul smell and unruly behavior. A terrible choice for business or educational trips. Kitchen is infested with cockroaches. · Rooms are poorly ventilated and extremely hot. They charge extra for towels and a security deposit. · They still provide a lock for your belongings. Permanent management is never available

L'hôtel se situe dans une rue vraiment malfamée mais c'est indépendant de la volonté de l'hôtel. Certaines choses sont à revoir au niveau de l'organisation et la propreté des lieux. Globalement j'ai passé un bon séjour dans cet hôtel choisi plutôt par praticité du au fait qu'il soit dans le centre ville. Mais hélas, et je le redis c'est indépendant de l'hôtel, la rue ne donne vraiment pas envie de revenir en ces lieux. Merci tout de même pour le séjour.

Rough neighborhood but super convenient to train and bus stations and grocery store. 5 min walk to all three. Inside is great. Good. Vibe. Great staff. Good amenities. A few bugs and flies but only in kitchen and common areas. (Maybe get exterminator?). Rooms and beds and baths all ok.

The capsules are great as it gives you privacy and no snoring noises etc. from others. The capsules have USB-C and USB-A ports and also a small fan. The hostel is very secure as they make sure no one can easily enter the rooms. Guests have to pass trough several locked doors and the capsules itself are also locked. The bar had a happy hour, i bought 2 large beers for only 4€. The shared bathrooms were nice. The staff was friendly. What i didn't like, the breakfast had many flies everywhere. Outside the hostel is a red light district with many drug dealers and users, it felt a bit unsafe but i did not get into trouble. It's great that it's close to the tram, subway and central train station.

I was content with my capsule for the value. I was a little nervous sharing a room with 5 men as the lone female but it was private and I felt like I was in my own room.

Much to be improved regarding cleanliness. Some rules like having to put your own bed sheets feels weird and annoying

Il existe différents niveaux d'aventure. Niveau facile : Allé au camping. Niveau moyen : camping sauvage. Niveau difficile : dormir à la belle étoile. Niveau expert : dormir dans cette auberge de jeunesse. En effet l'auberge se trouve dans le quartier rouge de francfort, nous avons donc été immergé dans la culture local bien que nous aurions préféré nous en préserver. Il faut aussi souligner la saleté du lieu ainsi que l'odeur nauséabonde due au manque d'aération et des frais de séjours surprise

Sehr zentrale Lage, alles war sehr sauber und die Preise für Essen & Getränke echt fair! Ich empfehle Ohrstöpsel (kann man an der Rezeption kaufen)weil es draußen nachts doch recht...interessant zugeht, aber ist halt das Bahnhofsviertel :D

I stayed here yesterday, and here's my opinion. This is a very cost-effective hotel. I will probably stay here again next time. The neighborhood is actually quite short, and while chaotic, it's not dangerous. The hotel itself is nice, especially the triple room, which has a private bathroom and is very clean. One downside, however, is the noise outside the window; remember to wear earplugs if you stay. The breakfast is decent, with ham, bread, yogurt, and vegetables, and it's cheaper if you book it with your room. It's very close to the train station, which is very convenient.

Lovely hostel, cosy pod style beds, good security (doors/rooms/beds), calm atmosphere, I didn’t get to many facilities. The area is atrocious though. As a female solo traveler, I ended up being followed from the area around the central busy city in broad daylight until I sought help from the police. I’m really fortunate that I met a lovely roommate who travelled around the city with me (for safety too). When I wasn’t with him, I was nervous about moving around honestly. Cockroaches all over the room and bathroom but the staff didn’t really seem to care about it

A localização é ruim, ficando no meio do bairro vermelho. Para chegar e sair do hostel tem que passar por moradores de rua usando drogas e pessoas mal encaradas. O hostel é seguro, limpo e os quartos são bons, mas infelizmente não posso recomendar para pessoas que tem medo de locais/situações perigosas.

Le lieux est cool est friendly, quand les personnes sont respectueuses des autres, avec mon fils très bien si ont sort de l’hostel et que l’on prend le nouveaux tunnel pour accéder à la va gare principale. La proximité directe avec le deutscland ticket reste un endroit à évité de se promener en visite, mais pour se reposer, c’est simple à trouver près de la gare.

I booked this hostel because of the amazing reviews and figured it would be a great place to stay. They did mention it’s in the red light district, but I honestly didn’t expect it to be like this. The atmosphere was just off — not welcoming at all. The staff weren’t very friendly, the place was quite dirty, and overall it didn’t feel comfortable or safe. It was full of young solo travellers, which I usually love, but even that couldn’t make up for the experience. Plus it had bed bugs so don’t go

Sí está en medio de un barrio complicado, aunque si bien lo advierten en su descripción, sí está horrible salir. La mitad del personal te tratan como si te estuvieran haciendo un favor. El desayuno me hizo daño. La habitación de 3 personas muy pequeña y la litera con el mínimo movimiento parecía que se iba a voltear. La vibra del hostal en general muy rara.

Not the best location, but the hostel is fully ok.

The hostel was clean I didn’t find any bed bugs which had been mentioned in some previous reviews. After reading previous reviews I was initially quite scared of the area but the streets were well lit, wide and had lots of people so was not what I expected initially. I still would recommend walking around with someone else as didn’t feel safe as a female solo traveller.

per quanto riguarda la posizione non ho trovato problemi, sì il quartiere è particolare (zona stazione), ma nulla di pericoloso e si arriva in ostello in neanche 5 minuti a piedi. Bisogna farsi i letti (come in molti altri ostelli) ma qui sono veramente difficili da fare, sembra che le lenzuola non siano abbastanza grandi. La pulizia lascia desiderare, la cucina sopratutto l'ho trovata sporchissima. Lo staff non così cordiale. Sicuramente non ci tornerò, una notte è stata più che sufficiente.

The location is the only bad thing about the hostel. It's not located in a good area.

The hostel itself is clean, especially the bathrooms and showers, my pillow had a lot of stains of god knows what, but it did smell clean and the pillow cover was clean too. staff is good. The ubication is very close to the main train station (that is why i do not give 1 star to the ubication) but you have like 2 squares around that are full of junkies, for me it is not that bad, i just ignore them and mind my own business. i would recomend to just look to the floor while walking, do not show any things of value and i guess if you are a girl, try to cover up as much as you can, maybe wear a hat and glasses so they do not bother that much. In the morning there is some police presence. Also say that there is only one washing machine and a dryer, so maybe you will have to wait for your turn. the wifi is very good. i would come back to this place.

Pretty decent place in Frankfurt. Mattress was comfortable room a bit cramped and stuffy. Area that the hostel is in is a bit dodgy.

Absolute worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The place was ugly, dirty, the surrounding area was the most dangerous part of Frankfurt. Drug addicts harass you the second you step out of the hostel. The hostel itself was not nice or well maintained. The rooms heated up as there was no air conditioning and was impossible to sleep. My roommate saw a man get beaten up on the patio with no intervention from staff. Not a single positive thing to say about this hostel. Staff wasn’t very friendly either

The hostel is in a bit of a dodgy area, but if you just walk on it’s literally fine. The hostel itself felt very secure, the bathrooms and toilets were very clean and the social space downstairs was really nice. Staff were a little standoffish and unfriendly but nothing major, would recommend if needing to stay somewhere cheaper, but possibly not for solo female travellers

I wouldn’t recommend this hostel to anyone traveling alone: the area (next to the central station in frankfurt) where the hostel is located is really bad and very dangerous. Also, the inside of the hostel is not that good, it’s not that clean and it doesn’t resemble the photos on the website, although the staff was kind and also helpful. Be aware when booking this hostel and first check out the area where it’s located.

The staff were nice, but the area is terrible. You do NOT feel safe, if you are traveling solo defenitely get another hostel as going back at night felt terrible and unsafe. We had to take uber to the door as to remotly feel safe about it. The noise coming from outside was obnoxious, rooms were hot and mostly smelled of urine and sweat.

Non consiglio assolutamente di andare in questa struttura. Il quartiere è assolutamente da non frequentare, purtroppo è il ricettacolo di senzatetto e droga. L’ostello non è come in foto. I letti sono stile carcere e le persone che lo frequentano non mi hanno dato per nulla un senso di sicurezza. Evitatelo.

DO NOT STAY HERE! Especially as a female solo traveller!! It’s in the worst neighbourhood in Frankfurt. There are homeless people everywhere, people doing drugs all around. They rip you off on the “card deposit” because you don’t get it back. Rooms are gross, the beds suck, you also have to pay for the sheets! I had to switch locations I felt so unsafe! The Rwd Light District is a scary place in Frankfurt! avoid at all costs.

El Hostel está muy bien, muy céntrico y a pocos minutos de l estación de trenes Solo la zona es una zona que por la noche puede ser peligrosa. Es mejor no salir por la noche. Hay muchos drogadictos y vagabundos.

As a solo female traveller for the last 6 months staying in this hostel was the most unsafe I’ve felt this whole time and I feel I need to warn my fellow travellers. Not the hostel itself but it is right in the middle of crackhead city. Night or day the street feels super sketchy, even going up the road to the store can have you on edge. Hostel felt like a little oasis amongst it all to be fair. I know it’s super cheap but you’ve been warned. Safe travels

As a solo female traveler i did not feel safe. Security in the hostel was really good, but the area around it was just horrible :( I left 8 in the morning to my train and some homeless started following me and screaming to me, if you go here, go with friends.

La struttura è ottima, la pulizia degli spazi comuni l'ho trovata molto buona e il personale simpatico. Il quartiere in cui si trova non è il massimo, però è davvero molto comodo per la stazione e anche per andare ai musei o in centro.

Area hostel is in is not a great area. Once in the hostel itself feels safe seems safe. No real social atmosphere and minimal facilities to do your own cooking or meals.

Had a pleasant stay at this hostel. First of all, it's true, the area is not the best and for some can be a little sketchy. But I had no problem at all. Just common sense in the streets worked for me. And in the positive side, the hostel is located really close to the Frankfurt central station, two blocks away. The hostel itself is really good. I stayed in one of the rooms with capsules and had enough privacy without losing the interaction that you expect in a hostel. Restrooms and showers were clean evey single time that I use them. Maybe I would increase the number of restrooms and showers available, there were only two male and two female at my floor. The staff was really helpful whenever I need it. Thank you all.

Overall the hostel itself is good value for money, my bed and bedsheets were clean, the shower likewise. The reception staff was helpful and friendly (I read some other comments here but my personal experience was great). The bed capsules were nice and the locker was big enough for my luggage. I had my own lock. Air ventilation is something that could be improved upon, especially during summer. Unfortunately the bed capsules trap heat, so at night it's kinda like being cremated in a coffin :D (I'm also more sensitive to bad air and heat). Also the prices at their website were ~4€ lower than what I paid for when I came to the hostel. But as others mentioned, location was the biggest downer. The hotel explicitly warned about this in their confirmation e-mail, but it was more rough than I expected. Noone bothered me nor approached me whether I walked down the street during the day or at night. I kept on walking, minded my own business and it was ok. That being said, it really stressed me out. You will be around people that are on hard drugs (nothing against those people per se). It doesn't feel safe. If you are not used to such districts/aren't unfazed by life, I would not recommend.

it was a decent hostel over all (had a funny smell and wasnt super social) but as a solo female traveler i DID NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE AREA. it is in the red light district and its actually really scary to be on the street at any time of the day. location is decent it’s only 5 mins to the train and bus station and 20 mins walk to the old town. overall i think it’s a nice place and they run social events every night which is good so you can hang out in the hostel instead of walking back late.

Very unfriendly and inflexible people. I needed a capsule to sleep between a flight and a train journey and they refused an early check-in, although they had many free spaces and in the previous chats they had said it’s not a problem if a place is free. Do not waste your time and money.

DO NOT stay here if you are a solo female traveller, the area this hostel is in goes beyond just how it it is described on the website, it is downright dangerous. I've been to many cities all over the world, but genuinely never been harassed like that in my life. Half of the reception staff is great, the other half is quite rude. Also paying for bedsheets is something I've never had to do before, also does not come with a towel as advertised. The pod rooms are nice, but zero ventilation so incredibly hot. Also not noise proof in the slightest, and people tend to be very loud since they are not in open bunks. Additionally, their pay system was down so they made me come back 3 times to try to pay, and they charged extra for using a card. As well, my card locked me out of my pod halfway through my stay. Many better options but there, stay safe.

Don’t stay here!!! The area is super unsafe and the hostel has the same vibe. Staff weren’t that helpful they kept trying to charge me the city tax multiple times. They also charge commission to pay with card which feels unlawful, not my problem that they charge you commission since you’re supposed to take care of that. They also don’t give back the card deposit if you check out at noon and disguise it as charity. I know it’s cheap but avoid it at all costs
