Five Elements Hostel

My first solo trip and the stay was at this hostel. The staff was very friendly and helpful and knew English so there wasn’t difficulty in communication. You can get the padlock and towel by paying some deposit which you get back on checkout. Overall the room was nice and the bunk bed was nice with fresh sheets and covers provided for the stay. Breakfast had good options. They provide free tea and coffee throughout the day which is very good. The only thing was that they told after I booked that it’s on red light district which location wise isn’t really impressive as the street is very dirty. But overall, very impressed with their service and stay. For solo travellers who wanna enjoy their trip without spending huge chunk on accommodation, it’s definitely a place to stay

Gets the job done. Although they do warn you it can be a little eye opening to be in the red light district especially when you come from somewhere that does not have that culture. That being said the establishment does a great job with security and not once did myself or my travel companion feel unsafe in the area.

The hostel was in an incredibly unsafe location. Immediately after I got off the train someone threatened to st*b me for my water bottle. As I went to the hostel, there were homeless encampments and broken glass everywhere you looked. I was accosted twice by people with track marks up and down their arms and legs. I was in the hostel for about 4 hours until I realized this was not an appropriate place for me to stay. I did not want to stay somewhere where I would have to or everywhere or be worried about when the sun would go down. I cannot imagine what it would be like for a solo female traveler to stay there and go back to. I ended up booking a stay at a hotel across town. Frankfurt is a very nice city with a lot to offer but this place is so poorly placed I cannot recommend it to anyone. Facilities were poorly maintained as well. Bathrooms were unclean and the beds were cheap and rickety. Just an overall terrible experience.

Although they highlight the location in the description, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hostel to anyone because it is simply not safe. As a male traveller I did not leave after dark because of how dangerous the surrounding area is. There are crackheads everywhere, and at one point a junkie came into the hostel through the security door behind me trying to sell me drugs.The area is extremely unsafe, especially for female travellers.

I really like this hostel and I used to stay there frequently when I was younger, yet the only problem with it is its location. Although it is extremely central and so close to the train main station, it happens to lie within the red light district area with its street junkies. This might make it uncomfortable to some girls. It is still safe, but definitely disturbing and uncomfortable.

Very nice hostel with everything you need once you are inside. However, surrounding area outside is not nice at all, right in the middle of red light district. This meant it was very loud all night and all I could hear was bottles smashing, people shouting and police. However, the hostel make it clear that this is where they are, so I was expecting it.

i did not listen to the reviews and stayed here despite the warnings of the area. If you are a solo female traveler, i am begging you PLEASE do not stay here. I have been to many “unsafe” areas in many cities, so i wasn’t worried about being able to handle it - but i have NEVER felt as uncomfortable as i did here. It is smack dab in the red light district (Google it, it’s literally the 2nd street) and i was harassed, cat called, avoided glass bottles being thrown at me, had to hit a man who attempted to literally grab my waist, watched countless people bend over shooting up, got chased, saw police grab a man with blood pouring down his face, and more, all in the span of two separate 4 minute walks in the area. It doesn’t matter the time of day, it is extremely unsafe. There are 3 or 4 brothels / strip clubs on the same street, and unfortunately it brings a lot of scary people to the area. I feel lucky to have been able to avoid harm. It is not the hostel’s fault, and for what it’s worth they have a lot of safety features inside, but it is truly not worth risking your safety during the walk from the train station to the building. Splurge and book a bnb or hotel far away from this area, I would hate to see anyone be harmed out of a need to save money. It’s just not worth it.

Great, affordable place to sleep and hang out in downtown Frankfurt! We got a room with a private bath, and it had everything we needed, was clean, and as I said, affordable. Plenty of extras available; free coffee and tea, cheap drinks from 6pm-8pm (2 for 1), and the bar here never really closes, so we were able to chill with some new friends till all hours in a comfortable, safe space. The location seems a little sketchy at first, but a short walk in any direction, about 2 blocks or so, and you are clear of the "red light district".

Just stayed there. Very sketchy outside the front door since it is on Red Light street. Lots of d*** deals go on there. My friend saw a man overdoes and die. The rooms and beds are comfy. Staff was busy and friendly to a point. Bathroom flooded. Showers are split by a glass that is pretty see through.

The staff and the atmosphere was amazing. The only downside was the homeless people just outside the hostel but the hostel has nothing to do with it.
