For one night quick stay it was fine but otherwise I would probably not recommend. The area felt sketchy and a bit scary for a female traveler. The beds were very squeaky and a lot of noice from the surroundings during the night. Ok bathrooms. Also very hot in the room.

Some details about the plumbing, faucets etc, could be better, though not that important. Hostel world should have precised upfront that 7€ more was to be paid at the check in, it’s always nice to know the full price before paying

My capsule bed was not at all ventilated, in washroom one washbasin was also not workin, in my bed there was no wifi signal and location had lot of noise from outside. Only positive thing was that there was free coffee and water but the coffee was cold.

I’m a world traveler and never had such a bad experience with hostels. They got in my room without knocking 3 times. I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe because you cannot lock the door from inside. The ac of my room was not working and they did nothing about it. When I went to talk to the manager, he told me I was lying and he couldn’t believe what I said and that it was nothing they could do. The location is also terrible, full of drugs, strip clubs and really sketchy vibes.

Good place, close to the main train station. There are lots of rooms and the building is secure (lots of people on the streets who would be unpleasant visitors). Rooms were fine, I never felt unsafe. The evening event was a lot of fun, they try to host something regularly. I was not a fan of the heavy metal music they played at breakfast (personally not much of a fan or any of the music they played, but probably more of a personal opinion, but I thought it was a poor choice for mornings)

The female, white receptionist is awful. I had an advance booking already, still she asked me to wait for 15 mins for check-in. After 15 mins passed, she still says, "You have to wait." I asked "How much longer?" and apparently that simple sensible question was enough to annoy her, she says "I don't know." I was asked to wait till I am called back and guess what, they never called me back. They wasted my 50 mins before the check-in and this too happened cause I angrily inquired at the end.

You get what you pay for, and for the location and price, this is the cheapest place to stay in Frankfurt.
However, the environment is very cramped and loud, and it can be difficult to be comfortable. For example, the capsules are very hot inside, and the tiny fans inside cannot cool them. As a result, sleeping in the capsule was hot and sweaty and miserable.
There weren't outlets to charge laptops in the capsule, so the best place to charge them is the lobby lounge, which has loud music late.

Awful. A lot of homeless people and druggies right in front of the hostel, you can hear them at night when the windows are open. The receptionist seemed very stressed and unfriendly. The capsules are nice but the room, very uninviting. The bathrooms smell, no air and super warm, and one of the showers leakes water everywhere. Nice little kitchen and living areas but they don't make up for bad stuff.

One of the best hostels I have ever been to, very friendly staff, free tea + coffee, private bunk beds (closed all around) are like having my own room, central location close to main station and supermarket, no complaints!

Terrible hostel. Very left-wing woke people working there that were not welcoming at all. They were bored and did not appear to like their job at all. Also the neighborhood is a very bad ghetto, can’t recommend going to Frankfurt at all.

I found bed bugs. I had a number of bites all over my body after the night of staying there. Additionally, I showed the front desk staff, several bed bugs that I caught in a glass to highlight the problem. The front desk staff were polite but the manager didn't reach out or make a serious effort to address the level of discomfort that was caused by this problem. Again, I have bites that are very uncomfortable and all over my body.

Sure the neighbourhood is sketchy, but the hostel itself is safe. It was very clean, the bedroom had a fan (no AC, but that's common in Europe), the common area was nice and big, with a foosball table and free unlimited tea/coffee. For this price, it's one of the best hostels I've been in.

Since it is in a weird neighborhood i can share some tips with the newcomers. If you’re coming back before the sun sets, the trick is to walk on the side of the road where there is still sunshine, most weirdos prefer to stay in the shade. Don’t talk to those people and don’t look at them. It’s really not that bad if you just look after yourself. But overall it was a great hostel, i recommend booking it!

Property is nice and does it's best to accomadate despite its location. I would not want to stay here as a solor traveller, given the location in the Red Light district. The capsule system is great for the dorms though, and felt like an extra bit of security.

We hadn't realized it was in the red neighborhood and we didn't feel safe outside the hostel, but it's only 4 minutes away from the main train station so that was nice. Inside the hostel we felt safe and everything was quite good (the kitchen was a but dirty however). We would recommend it but pay attention to the location especially for girls.

The capsule assigned to me had a strong, unpleasant body odor after I had met a guy who had to leave quickly, moving his belongings into his original capsule. I requested to switch to a more affordable bunk and a girls-only room, but the receptionist loudly declared that there would be no refund. I didn't mind, though.
Surprisingly, she assigned me a room filled with snoring men, featuring an old, dirty red curtain, and showed no sense of decency or willingness to offer even a free breakfast to make up for the staff incompetence and rudeness.
I think people with positive feedback are either lucky or are paid staff of the hostel.

Great experience overall. The location is very central, which made it super convenient to explore the city—everything was within walking distance. However, it’s worth knowing that the hostel is in the red light district, so you might come across some unusual characters on the street. That said, I never felt unsafe during my stay.
The staff was amazing—super friendly and always ready to help with anything. The facilities are good, and I especially appreciated the free coffee and luggage room.

I stayed here for about a week in an 8-bed dorm because it was the cheapest place I could go to, and I have no regrets. Quite the opposite.
Staff was exceedingly friendly and everything I could ask for was available. Clean rooms, excellent shower, big lockers right by the beds.
Security was absolutely top notch, and in the best way. Reception is 24/7 and has direct eyes on the front door. You need to buzz at the door to be let in, a second buzz to get to the dorms, a key card to get into the room and then there are the aforementioned lockers, for which you can get a padlock basically for free (five euro deposit, you get it back). It sounds like it could be hassle but in the entire week I was never left waiting at the door for more than a couple seconds. I felt safer in this place than any other I've been to.
Yes, the neighbourhood is questionable, which is probably why they have this security to begin with. There's a lot of junkies, hookers and homeless people, and many will try to talk to you to ask for money, or to sell drugs or sex. It can look a bit scary at times, but let me tell you this. I'm a tall, crazy transgender woman who walks around in a miniskirt and without shoes. I attract all the attention I possibly could just by standing around. I walk through the street and all eyes on me. Yet, not once in the whole week have I had a negative experience, other than the casual heckling for money. I took some basic precautions against pickpocketing and not once has anything gone missing. The place is perfectly safe if you use a bit of common sense.
So, all in all, high marks. Loved the place. Will come again.

Not great. Location is less than ideal being in the Red Light district. Felt unsafe during the evening & saw people administering drugs in the streets. The tenants in our room were rude and made us feel very uncomfortable through our short interactions. The rooms were incredibly warm & smelled awful. Just across the city, Frankfurt was lovely but this area and hostel we will not be visiting again. Staff was helpful in allowing us to move rooms, but the experience was unpleasant overall.

The location is in red light District with crackheads.
I didn’t know that but it was very interesting experience.
I came to Frankfurt for business in a high rise in the financial district but if I didn’t stay this hostel by chance, I would have seen only limited aspects of Frankfurt.
Might be not safe especially for women walking alone at night though.
Inside of the hotel was very safe and I could store my valuables locked in the dormitory.
Free coffee service for guests was really great.

good value - the location is exactly what they mention. The hostel is well secured however in a very sketchy location. Rude receptionist Anastasia at Five Elements Hostel Frankfurt (June 8, 2025) treated me with hostility from check-in, interrupted me, shamed me, ignored polite questions, shortchanged me, tapped me aggressively on my shoulder and mocked me. She failed to provide the most basic info and tried to provoke confrontation. Another staff confirmed my complaint was valid. I request CCTV review, investigation and a disciplinary action against her. She was rude to all, clearly unfit to deal with guests.

Overall I'd come back, but not for longer than 1-2 nights. Location is great for train convenience. Centred in the red light district so be warned that if you're uncomfortable with vulnerable populations this may not be your place. Wish there were curtains for the beds. Something small like that makes a big difference. Lastly, on 4th floor men's shower - it didn't drain the water well and flooded easily. Felt like a tsunami while showering.
